The story of Glacial Lake Devlin and evidence of its catastrophic demise is a fascinating and little-known chapter in the geologic history of Caribou Ranch. Join volunteer naturalists on this 4.5-mile moderate hike to learn about the evidence firsthand. We will also learn about some of the oldest rocks in the area and the valuable minerals that formed and were mined nearby.

I have had a life-long love of science, teaching, and the outdoors, so I'm very happy to serve as a Volunteer Naturalist. Geology was my first field of study. My working career included software development, leading a small educational nonprofit, and teaching high school science. I served as a Boy Scout leader and robotics coach, and hiked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. In 2019 my wife and I retired and moved from Ann Arbor to Longmont.
I grew up on a farm, working the fields and managing livestock. In college, I was introduced to the Colorado mountains by my husband, and we spent many years camping, hiking, backpacking, and exploring Colorado with friends, neighbors, and family. He encouraged my love of birds, flowers, trees, and native edibles, and I learned that I shared his passion for geology and paleontology. I spent 35 years in engineering and management, including work for the NSF, and remain an avid naturalist.
