National Public Lands Day - Trail Work at Hall Ranch

Volunteer Work Projects - All Ages Welcome

Celebrate National Public Lands Day with Boulder County Parks & Open Space. Join us as we do some trail work on the Nighthawk Trail at Hall Ranch. Our mission for the day is to divert water off the trail and repair severely cupped sections of tread. We will use a variety of hand tools to dig drains and construct timber restoration checks. With your help we hope to reduce the amount of mud and prevent future trail damage! LOCATION & PARKING We will meet by the picnic shelter in the upper parking lot of Hall Ranch promptly at 10am. Part of the parking lot may be closed for construction, so if the lot fills up you are allowed to park along the road (S St. Vrain Rd). A Google Maps pin can be found here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/nthHxZupR8sURGoR7 We will then load into 12-passenger vans to shuttle closer to the project site. From there, there will be an additional 1-mile hike each way. Due to the nature of this project, leaving early is highly discouraged and participants should be prepared to stay onsite until 3pm. Please note that there is almost no cell phone service. You may not have service at all in the parking lot and for the duration of the project. Difficulty: Moderate. Project will involve hiking up to 3 miles with some elevation gain while carrying your backpack with your personal gear. You will be up to 1 mile away from our shuttle vehicle and will need to carry all gear with you. All necessary personal protective equipment will be provided by Boulder County, but volunteers should prepare themselves by bringing the following: - Water bottle with water - Sturdy boots/shoes (no open-toed footwear) - Pants, instead of shorts (recommended, but not required) - Snacks - Sunscreen - Work gloves (if you have a special pair you like, otherwise we will provide) - Backpack (for carrying food, extra layers/rain gear, etc.) Lunch will be provided! Full instructions will be sent out 1 week prior to the event. Until then, feel free to reach out to George Carter (Volunteer Coordinator) at [email protected] or 720-899-0127 (call or text). Looking forward to working with you!

George C - STAFF

I am a volunteer coordinator for Boulder County Parks & Open Space, focused on leading projects related to recreation. Outside of work, I own a farm in Longmont with my partner Ginny, where we grow and sell cut flower arrangements and pumpkins. I love watching all kinds of movies (good and bad), spending time with my dogs, running, and hiking.
