Cultural History - All Ages Welcome
Join us at the Agricultural Heritage Center for a day of critters and fun! Barnyard Critter Day is an annual event celebrating the vital role that farm animals and livestock play on the farm. In addition to our regular lineup of chickens, goats, sheep, pigs, mini mules, cows, and horses, we will feature demonstrations of sheep herding, sheep shearing, wool washing, and spinning. Meet 4-H groups showcasing their animals and a ranger with their horse. Enjoy hands-on activities like butter making, corn cob doll crafting, calf roping, flower pressing and much more! A food truck will be on-site offering delicious lunch options. Please leave pets at home so working animals will not be disturbed. All ages welcome.

Hi everybody! I am a Colorado Native but wasn't able to really start enjoying the outdoors until College at CU Boulder. There, my love for hiking, climbing, and other miscellaneous outdoor activities really prospered. Spending time in the outdoors is one of my favorite pastimes, but I especially love it when I am able to share it with others.

I was raised in Boulder, leaving for a few years after high school for the usual stuff: college, bumming around, working at this and that. Came back to Boulder and eventually started my own little welding and blacksmithing business, building railings and gates all around the greater Boulder area, and repairing and/or fabricating any number of improbable contraptions. In 2020 I retired, and am now a man of leisure, enjoying the mountains and prairie with my wife. No pets, no kids.

I am the volunteer coordinator at the Agricultural Heritage Center. I have worked in various capacities for Boulder County Parks and Open Space over the past 20 years with most of my experience rooted at the AHC. I coordinate volunteer programs related to leading educational programs, caring for livestock, and managing the heirloom garden. I plan large and small public events and also oversee BCPOS' artifact collection that supports other historic sites.

This magnificent nature has been a sacred sanctuary for me since a young age, reflecting back to me and guiding me along the way. This intimate love affair, combined with my passion for serving people in various capacities, including mending the relationship between the human and the more-than-human-world, led me to become a Forest Therapy Guide and to begin my heart-nourishing relationship with BCPOS by first becoming involved through the Volunteer Ranger Corps program. I am a retired elementary teacher. I love to hike in Boulder County and walk caminos such as the Camino de Santiago in Spain.

Growing up in New England, I spent my childhood outdoors exploring beaches and waters to discover new creatures and investigate whatever washed ashore. In the woods, I enjoyed hiking, climbing and exploring what lay beneath the leaves. As an adult, I lived along Lake Ontario and in the Midwest becoming acquainted with new varieties of flora and fauna. I moved to Colorado 13 years ago and enjoy hiking, biking, skiing, and learning about the wildlife with whom we share our open space.

I’m a Colorado native; I grew up in Golden and moved to Greeley to attend UNC. I earned my undergraduate and MA degrees in history. That led me to museums, where I’ve worked for over 20 years. As of December of 2010 I’m excited to have Boulder County Parks and Open Space as my workplace. There’s fun, constant learning, and variety in being the Cultural History Program Coordinator; I get to work with amazing and talented colleagues and volunteers as we share the history of the area.
