This Event was Canceled due to the Stone Canyon Wildfire. Join volunteer naturalists and astronomers from the Longmont Astronomical Society for a series of summer night astronomy programs. Together we'll learn about the night skies and view the celestial bodies residing in our galaxy and beyond. Summer is a great time to view the Milky Way, our home galaxy. Where is our solar system in the galaxy? Why do the planets and moon not follow the same path as the stars we see as the Milky Way? Bring a chair or blanket, a light jacket, and a red flashlight, and get ready to enjoy a night out with the family. The presentation is at the picnic shelter. It is followed by stargazing in the parking area. Telescopes are provided by the Longmont Astronomical Society.

CancelI retired from Boulder County Parks & Open Space in 2022. I love sharing information about the natural world and our local history with children and adults. I also love teaching astronomy and helping people better understand how celestial motion works, and how dark skies are important to us all.
I grew up in northwestern Ohio. My favorite place was always outside. I have an undergraduate degree in Biology. Living in Colorado has been a great gift, and I need to give back to the community in appreciation for all I have received and experienced. Becoming a volunteer naturalist is the perfect way to meet that need. It combines my curiosity about the natural world, my love for the outdoors, and the opportunity to provide service to those who also call Boulder County home.
