Ravens and Wolves: Vilified, Revered, and Fascinating

 06/06/2026  |  10:00 AM - 11:30 AM
  Betasso Preserve  |  Registration Required

Natural History - All Ages Welcome

Explore the habitats and behaviors of ravens and wolves; two highly intelligent animals known for their complex social lives and vicious reputations. Both species are native to Colorado, though wolves were largely absent from the state from the 1940s until 2023. Join us to learn how these animals thrive amongst themselves, with each other, and within the greater ecosystem. The program starts with examples of mounts, pelts, sounds, and scat, followed by a 1.5-mile hike with stops to observe and discuss habitats and behaviors.

Minimum Participants: 5
Maximum Participants: 25

Registration is required for this activity.

I'm a lifelong lover and learner of the outdoors. I grew up in Iowa on the Mississippi River, where boating, fishing, and camping were a huge part of my childhood. After learning about environmental education in high school, I knew this was the field for me. Since then, I've gotten my Masters in Recreation, Park and Tourism Administration and worked across the country in outdoor education and recreational roles. I love the opportunity to connect people to the natural world and inspire change!

Kirsten K - Volunteer Naturalist

I am passionate about being, teaching, and learning in the great outdoors. Some of my most defining memories have been outside from activities like backcountry skiing, peak-bagging, and tracking animals. These adventures have given me a healthy respect for mother nature, wildlife, and the environment. It is my hope that the volunteer naturalist program will fuel my passion and help me to encourage it in others.

I am filled with awe and wonder when in the out of doors. Nature brings out the best in me – reverence, curiosity, wonder and humility. I love to hike, camp, flyfish, ski, and sometimes do nothing, but take it all in. My greatest joy is doing these activities with family and friends as it deepens the connection. As a VN I desire to instill a sense of wonder and caring through education to others in the hope that they are inspired through nature and may also be moved to conserve it.
