Volunteer Work Projects - Adults (Ages 13 & Older)

Limber pine is an ecologically valuable species serving many functional roles in higher elevation ecosystems. Across its range limber pine is facing multiple threats including mountain pine beetle, white pine blister rust, and dwarf mistletoe. All these agents can cause widespread tree mortality and, when found in combination, can be even more lethal such that the long-term sustainability of the species is threatened. One strategy to aid in the recovery of the species is to get more limber pine on the landscape by outplanting seedlings or by direct seeding. Volunteers are needed to sow limber pine seeds on one of our mountain properties. THIS PROJECT INVOLVES A STRENUOUS, ½ MILE UPHILL HIKE THROUGH SNOW DRIFTS. THE PROJECT LOCATION IS AT 9000’ IN ELEVATION AND IS SUBJECT TO CANCELLATION DUE TO UNPREDICTABLE SPRING WEATHER. IN CASE OF CANCELLATION, WE PLAN ON HOLDING A LIMBER PINE SEED CLEANING EVENT AT PARKS & OPEN SPACE HEADQUARTERS IN LONGMONT. PLEASE NOTE --Online waivers must be filled out prior to attending this project. Please follow the Online Waiver Link to sign your waiver. A waiver is required for every person attending the project. --Project details with directions will be emailed once you have registered
