Celebrate Halloween with Boulder County Parks & Open Space. We could all use another excuse to wear a Halloween costume, so throw one on and let's do some trail work! We're hosting our final public trail work event for the year at our most popular project site- Rabbit Mountain! Come prepared to get whatever you're wearing covered in dirt and sweat. Our mission for the day is to reduce the amount of mud on the trail. Join us as we finish construction of raised turnpikes, close down unnecessary trail braiding, and dig drains and side ditches to reduce water damage. With your help, we hope to reduce the number of days trails are closed due to excessive mud. Difficulty: Moderate. Project may involve hiking up to half a mile over uneven terrain and using various hand tools. Trail work is a workout- expect to get covered in dirt, sweat a bit, and have a good time. Project Description: We will be constructing raised turnpikes to mitigate standing water and mud on-trail. Volunteers will set pieces of 6x6 wood and secure them into the ground with rebar. We will work together to fill the turnpike with various materials that will allow water to drain down through the walking surface, instead of sitting on top. Participants should expect to sweat as we carry rocks, dig in the dirt, and wheelbarrow around fill material. A variety of additional tasks should be expected. All necessary personal protective equipment will be provided by Boulder County, but volunteers should prepare themselves by bringing the following: -A costume! (optional, but encouraged) -Water bottle and water -Sturdy shoes/boots -Backpack (for carrying clothes/water) -Pants are highly recommended -Layers of clothes -Rain gear -Snacks Every participant must fill out a waiver prior to the event. Please take 2 minutes and click the Waiver link below, or go to https://waiver.fr/p-ibsyE Participants must be 12 years of age or older, and anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
