Natural History - All Ages Welcome
Explore the habitat and behaviors of ravens and wolves (as well as crows and coyotes) — creatures known for their intelligence, social bonds, and misunderstood reputations. All are native to Colorado, though wolves have been absent from Boulder County since the 1940s. Join us to discover what makes these animals so interesting, how they interact, and the unique partnership between wolves and ravens. The program includes hands-on exploration of mounts, pelts, scat, and prints, followed by a 1.5-mile hike to observe habitats and, with luck, some wildlife.

Kirsten K - Volunteer Naturalist
I am passionate about being, teaching, and learning in the great outdoors. Some of my most defining memories have been outside from activities like backcountry skiing, peak-bagging, and tracking animals. These adventures have given me a healthy respect for mother nature, wildlife, and the environment. It is my hope that the volunteer naturalist program will fuel my passion and help me to encourage it in others.

Mary E S - Volunteer Naturalist
I am a native of Southeastern Wisconsin. In 2023, after retiring from a varied career in clinical laboratory science, I moved to Boulder from Scottsdale, Arizona. I have always been drawn to the natural world and animals. I enjoy learning more about the unique ecosystem in Boulder County. Being a volunteer naturalist allows me to join the community of like-minded people who enjoy the outdoors and provides an opportunity to connect others with our special Boulder resources.

Peter J - Volunteer Naturalist
I am filled with awe and wonder when in the out of doors. Nature brings out the best in me – reverence, curiosity, wonder and humility. I love to hike, camp, flyfish, ski, and sometimes do nothing, but take it all in. My greatest joy is doing these activities with family and friends as it deepens the connection. As a VN I desire to instill a sense of wonder and caring through education to others in the hope that they are inspired through nature and may also be moved to conserve it.
