Natural History - Seniors

Easy Hike. Wildflowers are blooming and showing their bright colors. Purples, yellows, whites and reds dot the hillsides and valleys at higher elevations. Bask in the natural beauty that sprouts from the ground. Find these flowers along the trail as Volunteer Naturalists share stories and uses for some of our native plant species and learn more about their special relationships with the pollinators and insects that make up their micro community.

Maximum Participants: 20

I grew up in a small village in Cumbria, with the English countryside as my wild playground. I accidentally emigrated in 1965, and since then have been catching up on all aspects of Colorado’s wildlife. (My newest passion is moths. I have a B.Sc. in physiology from University of London, which I used only for five years of medical research. After a time-out for mothering, I turned to writing—twelve books so far—as a way to avoid working nine to five. I began volunteering for BCPOS in 1978,

Originally from Arizona, the Colorado Plateau is the landscape I most feel at home in. In 2004, I graduated with a B.A. in Environmental Studies (emphasis in Natural History and Ecology). Worked in land stewardship and ecological restoration in Texas before moving to Boulder County and eventually being a stay-at-home parent for the last five years (with an emphasis on nature adventures). Volunteering is a wonderful way for me to share my curiosity about nature.
