CANCELED: Astronomy vs. Astrology

 06/07/2024  |  08:15 PM - 10:30 PM
Ron Stewart Preserve at Rabbit Mountain  |  Registration Required

Natural History - All Ages Welcome

Join volunteer naturalists and astronomers from the Longmont Astronomical Society for a series of summer night astronomy programs. Together we'll learn about the night skies and view the celestial bodies residing in our galaxy and beyond. The constellations that make up the astrological signs follow the path of the ecliptic along with the moon and the planets. Find out what the ecliptic is and how Astronomy and Astrology are out of sync because of the procession of earth. Bring a chair or blanket, a light jacket, and a red flashlight, and get ready to enjoy a night out with the family. The presentation is at the picnic shelter. It is followed by stargazing in the parking area. Telescopes are provided by the Longmont Astronomical Society.

Deborah Profile Photo

Deborah K - Volunteer Naturalist

I am a mostly-retired lawyer and an outdoor adventurer, with many years of experience as a backpacker, hiker, rock climber, and outdoor guide/educator. I am excited to be part of Boulder County's volunteer naturalist program, to learn more about this area's natural history and then share with my community what I've learned and what I love about the outdoors.

I retired from Boulder County Parks & Open Space in 2022. I love sharing information about the natural world and our local history with children and adults. I also love teaching astronomy and helping people better understand how celestial motion works, and how dark skies are important to us all.

Tim L - Volunteer Naturalist

I grew up in northwestern Ohio. My favorite place was always outside. I have an undergraduate degree in Biology. Living in Colorado has been a great gift, and I need to give back to the community in appreciation for all I have received and experienced. Becoming a volunteer naturalist is the perfect way to meet that need. It combines my curiosity about the natural world, my love for the outdoors, and the opportunity to provide service to those who also call Boulder County home.
