Volunteer Work Projects

Celebrate Halloween with Boulder County Parks & Open Space. We're hosting our final public trail work event for the year at the ever-popular Hall Ranch! Join us as we clear some trail drainages on the Nelson Loop. Our mission for the day is to divert water off the trail by digging drains to mitigate erosion. We will use a variety of hand tools including pick-mattocks, McLeods, and shovels. With your help we hope to reduce the amount of mud and prevent future trail damage. Costumes are encouraged- just be prepared to get whatever you're wearing covered in dirt and sweat! LOCATION & PARKING We will meet in the Upper parking lot of the Hall Ranch Trailhead promptly at 11:30am. Look for the trail kiosk- we will group up there. A Google Maps pin can be found here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/zTTWE2aah2eL28Yt9 From there we will load into 12-passenger vans to shuttle closer to the project site. We will be hiking up to 1 mile to the worksite and up to 1 mile back over uneven terrain. You will need to carry your backpack with your personal gear with you, as well as a hand tool. Gloves and eye protection will be provided. Due to the nature of this project, leaving early is highly discouraged and participants should be prepared to stay onsite until 4:00pm. There will be no cell phone service at the parking lot and it will be very limited at the project site. What to bring: -Water bottle and water -Sturdy shoes/boots -Backpack (for carrying clothes/water) -Costume (optional but encouraged) -Sunscreen -Rain gear -Snacks/lunch if you haven't eaten yet There is a pit toilet only at the trailhead, so be prepared to use the woods if you need to go once the project begins. Have any questions? Feel free to reach out to Jo Daloisio (Volunteer Coordinator) at [email protected] Looking forward to working with you!
