Natural History - Ages 13 & Older

Have you ever been curious about the different grasses that grow along Boulder County trails? Join volunteer naturalists for a 2.5-mile hike at Rabbit Mountain to learn about the early season grasses of the foothills. We’ll search for different grasses, talk about their vital role in the ecosystem and buffering climate change, and explore the area’s special biodiversity values. Look closely and you might just develop a new appreciation of our beautiful, yet often, overlooked grasses!

I greatly enjoy exploring Boulder’s trails with family and friends. Retired from the Nature Conservancy, I’m excited to share my love of plants and the natural world through the Volunteer Naturalist program!

I am a lover of plants, a student of native plant gardening, an avid hiker and a retired psychologist. I've spent most of my adult life in Boulder learning this land while working at Counseling & Psychological Services at CU and teaching at CU and Naropa. I look forward to engaging with others in deepening our sense of connection to this awesome place, and in opening our senses to the land and water and plants and critters whose lives we are entangled with.

I’ve lived in Boulder since 1982 ... drawn to the beauty and wide open spaces of the Rocky Mountains. I am grateful for the abundance of open space in Boulder County and want to help others to enjoy it as much as I have over many years. I’m especially interested in sharing insights about the diverse Boulder county life zones and the big picture of the natural systems that sustain our open spaces.

I grew up on a farm, working the fields and managing livestock. In college, I was introduced to the Colorado mountains by my husband, and we spent many years camping, hiking, backpacking, and exploring Colorado with friends, neighbors, and family. He encouraged my love of birds, flowers, trees, and native edibles, and I learned that I shared his passion for geology and paleontology. I spent 35 years in engineering and management, including work for the NSF, and remain an avid naturalist.
