All About Evergreens Hike

 05/31/2025  |  10:00 AM - 12:30 PM
  Mud Lake  |  Registration Required

Natural History - All Ages Welcome

Join us to meet some of our most important native conifers. We will walk about 2 miles around Mud Lake and down to the creek, looking for examples of the diversity of conifers in this ecosystem, including pine, spruce, and fir. We will attend to the habitats of the various evergreen species — why they are, where they are — and look for evidence of their relationships with other plant and animal members of the forest community. We’ll talk about how climate change affects conifers and will learn some identification tips.

Gaia Profile Photo

Gaia M - Volunteer Naturalist

I am a lover of plants, a student of native plant gardening, an avid hiker and a retired psychologist. I've spent most of my adult life in Boulder learning this land while working at Counseling & Psychological Services at CU and teaching at CU and Naropa. I look forward to engaging with others in deepening our sense of connection to this awesome place, and in opening our senses to the land and water and plants and critters whose lives we are entangled with.

Jill I - Volunteer Naturalist

Boulder has been home for over 20 years. I live in the mountains near Walker Ranch, where I also volunteer. Originally from NY, I ran a creative writing school there, but moved here because of my love of nature and mountain air. Learning about the natural world, history, and about healing modalities for people and earth have always been passions. I also write, am a mom, practice yoga and other energy work, and play harmonium. I love sharing info and connecting people with the awe of nature.

I'm a retired land planner, nurse and attorney. I have been interested in the natural world since elementary school, with a particular focus on native plants and ecosystems.

Mary E Profile Photo

Mary E S - Volunteer Naturalist

I am a native of Southeastern Wisconsin. In 2023, after retiring from a varied career in clinical laboratory science, I moved to Boulder from Scottsdale, Arizona. I have always been drawn to the natural world and animals. I enjoy learning more about the unique ecosystem in Boulder County. Being a volunteer naturalist allows me to join the community of like-minded people who enjoy the outdoors and provides an opportunity to connect others with our special Boulder resources.
