Astronomy: Aurora Borealis

 07/25/2025  |  08:00 PM - 10:30 PM
Ron Stewart Preserve at Rabbit Mountain

Natural History - All Ages Welcome

What are the auroras? We don’t often see the auroras in Colorado, but this may be a good year for them to show their colors. Join us to learn about what they are and how to have a chance to catch the show. Presentations will be at the picnic shelter, followed by stargazing in the parking area. The Longmont Astronomical Society provides telescopes. Bring a chair or blanket, a light jacket, and a red flashlight, and get ready to enjoy a night under the stars!

Minimum Participants: 5
Maximum Participants: 35

John Profile Photo

John W - Volunteer Naturalist

I earned a BS in Zoology and did graduate work in Wildlife Management, but spent my career in IT as a programmer and network architect. Now that I am retired, I can spend more time enjoying nature. My favorite topics are wildlife, nature photography and astronomy. I am a member of the Parks and Open Space Advisory Committee.

Wow, over 17 years with BCPOS. The most fun piece is identifying clouds and weather that I explore in my glider. I must admit I love to feed and groom the Belgians at the AHF, too.
