Natural History - All Ages Welcome
What's better than an early morning fall hike? An early morning fall hike followed by pancakes! Join us for a morning hike around the lake to welcome the season. Look for signs of fall in the trees and on the ground, breathe in the crisp air, and take in the views. After your hike, join us at the shelter for some pancakes with fruit. Hike a half-mile, a mile, or more, or skip the hike and relax with us at the shelter. Hiking and pancake eating are not required but are encouraged.

Andrew M - Volunteer Naturalist
Whether it's for work or play, being outdoors brings me joy! As a Volunteer Naturalist, I love to explore and learn with others about the natural world around us and to help people of all ages find their own connection to the land.
Carlos L - STAFF
I’m a Boulder native with family roots in Mexico. I grew up spending summers on my grandfather’s farm in Chihuahua and was fortunate enough to be exposed to the natural resources of Colorado through school trips and summer camps as a teen. All of these experiences helped foster an appreciation and love for the outdoors in me. I love to hike, camp, fish and birdwatch, and most importantly, I like doing those things with people who haven’t or don’t do them often.
Michael C - Volunteer Naturalist
I retired here from the east because of my love of Colorado and the great outdoors. I have been an avid photographer for more than 35 years and made many trips to Colorado to photograph its beauty. I enjoy chasing wildflowers, hiking, jeeping, fishing and photographing all of it. Boulder County’s open spaces/mountain areas give me great joy. Being a volunteer naturalist affords me the opportunity to give back to the residents of the County and share my passion for the very special place we live.
