Natural History - All Ages Welcome

Get in the spring spirit and join us to celebrate our native evergreens! When other trees have dropped their leaves and skies turn cold and gray, evergreens keep our forests bright. Learn all about our conifers in this slideshow and hands-on event. You’ll have a new appreciation for the wondrous abilities of these trees and their associations with other members of the forest community, some quite strange and unexpected. You’ll also learn how to identify our native pines, firs, spruces, and junipers.

Gaia Profile Photo

Gaia M - Volunteer Naturalist

I am a lover of plants, a student of native plant gardening, an avid hiker and a retired psychologist. I've spent most of my adult life in Boulder learning this land while working at Counseling & Psychological Services at CU and teaching at CU and Naropa. I look forward to engaging with others in deepening our sense of connection to this awesome place, and in opening our senses to the land and water and plants and critters whose lives we are entangled with.

I'm a retired land planner, nurse and attorney. I have been interested in the natural world since elementary school, with a particular focus on native plants and ecosystems.

Kathy K - Volunteer Naturalist

I grew up on a farm, working the fields and managing livestock. In college, I was introduced to the Colorado mountains by my husband, and we spent many years camping, hiking, backpacking, and exploring Colorado with friends, neighbors, and family. He encouraged my love of birds, flowers, trees, and native edibles, and I learned that I shared his passion for geology and paleontology. I spent 35 years in engineering and management, including work for the NSF, and remain an avid naturalist.
