Kathy K - Volunteer Naturalist

I grew up on a farm, working the fields and managing livestock. In college, I was introduced to the Colorado mountains by my husband, and we spent many years camping, hiking, backpacking, and exploring Colorado with friends, neighbors, and family. He encouraged my love of birds, flowers, trees, and native edibles, and I learned that I shared his passion for geology and paleontology. I spent 35 years in engineering and management, including work for the NSF, and remain an avid naturalist.

I retired here from the east because of my love of Colorado and the great outdoors. I have been an avid photographer for more than 35 years and made many trips to Colorado to photograph its beauty. I enjoy chasing wildflowers, hiking, jeeping, fishing and photographing all of it. Boulder County’s open spaces/mountain areas give me great joy. Being a volunteer naturalist affords me the opportunity to give back to the residents of the County and share my passion for the very special place we live.
