Natural History - All Ages Welcome
Letters of Promise invites you to build a mindful, reciprocal relationship with the land through papermaking and reflection. Rooted in Indigenous guiding principles, ecological restoration, and the histories of place, this program blends gratitude, storytelling, and future-minded stewardship. You'll learn to make seed-embedded paper, then write your own letter of appreciation and plant it in the landscape to help nurture the next generation of native plants.

I am a lover of plants, a student of native plant gardening, an avid hiker and a retired psychologist. I've spent most of my adult life in Boulder learning this land while working at Counseling & Psychological Services at CU and teaching at CU and Naropa. I look forward to engaging with others in deepening our sense of connection to this awesome place, and in opening our senses to the land and water and plants and critters whose lives we are entangled with.
Janet S - Volunteer Naturalist
I grew up in Boulder County, and have always loved the landscape here, from the plains to the high peaks. One of my parents was a scientist and the other a visual artist, and both perspectives have influenced my life; I want to be able to understand how things work, and also to appreciate their beauty. I think one of the most important challenges for humankind right now is to understand our place in the ecosystem, and learn to live like the rest of the natural world is our kin.
Susan M - Volunteer Naturalist
I am a recently retired academic editor who has lived in Boulder County for 55 years. I’m an avid xeriscape and native-plant gardener, and I love exploring our wild lands by foot, bike, and skis.
