Weed Warriors

Description:

Do you want to help enhance habitat and clean up the trails, while getting your hands dirty?

Weed Warriors is an exciting new program utilizing entirely mechanical control methods to control invasive weeds at  Walker Ranch. We need your help to spread the word and stop the spread of invasive weeds!

Volunteer Job Description:

The Weed Warrior Program is a unique volunteer initiative that will take a full circle approach to integrative weed management. we will focus all efforts in the Walker Ranch Loop area for this first 5 years. This area has had a rest from herbicide use for over a year. We will only be using non-herbicide methods of weed removal through out the 5 year period. Our hope is that we will be able to grow this program to encompass other parts of the county.

Volunteers will be responsible for a one mile section along the Walker Ranch Loop. Each field visit will involve manually pulling invasive plants, monitoring at pre-determined points, and reporting back data on a simple form.
We will also be incorporating native seed collections, plantings, and larger volunteer projects through out the year.
Volunteers will be trained on site and in the classroom with Boulder County Parks and Open Space staff.
